From damaged flower- and leaf buds Are growing deformed leaves and flowers also. Serious infection with this nematode is causing the death of flower buds. Foliar nematodes overwinter in the intercellulairy spaces in the leaves or in the buds in the water film between the scales of buds. When the temperature is rising in the spring, the nematodes become activated and turn into ectoparasites who are feeding on epidermal cells in their vincinity. This feeding is causing the dark brown patches (scar) on the leaves. Through their secretions they are also able to cause several other symptoms.
